AROUND THE SOUTHERN HIGHLANDS
The Southern Highlands are an easy 90 minute drive from both Canberra and Sydney. The gorgeous towns of Bowral, Bundanoon, Moss Vale, Berrima, Exeter, Robertson and Mittagong comprise the Southern Highlands, with lush green landscapes, fresh air and a real small town feeling (but still with all the modern conveniences). Whether you are visiting for a weekend or a mid-week stay, there is plenty to do - rich with history and heritage, and amazing produce, food and wine
Where do we even start?
Bundanoon (all are within a 5 minute walk of Carriglea Cottage):
We recommend Deli-licious or Potters Pantry for a great breakfast and coffee. Bundaoon Pizza serves excellent pizza and if you are looking for a great pub meal, try the Bundanoon Hotel.
Or hop in your car and head to:
Moss Vale (15 minute drive)- The Highlands Merchant - great coffee and brunch.
The Southern Highlands Brewery- fantastic beer and a really decent lunch and dinner
Moonacres- farm to table brunch and lunch in Robertson (25 minute drive)- and beautiful decor
Bowral (25 minute drive)
The Press Shop- beautiful interiors and great brunch
Biota Dining- modern Australian fine dining
New (fabulous) wineries continue to pop up all over the Southern Highlands- some of our favourites include Cuttaway Hill Wines in Exeter (10 minute drive)- the Southern Highlands Winery or Cherry Tree Hill Wines in Sutton Forest (15 minute drive) or Bendooley Estate in Berrima (25 minute drive)
The Southern Highlands has some fantastic shopping options. Some of our favourites include:
Homewares: The Nest and Burrow (in both Bundanoon and Moss Vale), The Summerhouse Store (Exeter), Mossy (Moss Vale) and Barbara’s Store House (Bowral or Mittagong)
Antiques/ Collectables: The Sticky Beak Emporium (Berrima), Dirty Janes in Bowral (loads of antique dealers, set aside a couple of hours at least!), Robertson Cheese Factory (Robertson)
THE GREAT OUTDOORS
Morton National Park is right on the door step of Bundanoon, and one of the entrances is less than a 15 minutes walk from Carriglea Cottage. Picturesque vistas and waterfalls are abound and chances are, you won't see any one else on your visit!
